Allen has been building for the web since browsers made a modem noise, and founded High5 Labs on the radical theory that a small crew of people who actually like each other could out-ship companies with org charts. The theory has held up embarrassingly well.

As The Boss, Allen’s responsibilities include setting direction, saying “ship it” and meaning it, and administering the release-day high five from which the company takes its name, its logo, and most of its HR incidents.

He has been consulting for so long that he measures his career in other people’s rewrites. When clients ask how long he’s been doing this, he answers in major versions.
