Design rules

- Local-first. The jar does not need the cloud. Readings live on the device and your network; nothing about your tomatoes crosses the ocean.
- Alerts mean something. Vigil speaks only when a human should act. If your phone buzzes, the starter is ready, the bed is dry, or leaf pair four looks off.
- Batteries measured in seasons. Hardware that watches living things should outlast the growing season without a charging ritual.
